history

The Baumgarten gasworks, also known as the Hütteldorf gasworks , was built in 1878 by the British-based Imperial Continental Gas Association in what is now the Deutschordensstraße. Mainly the public street lighting in Ober Sankt Veit was supplied .

There were two fires in the Baumgarten gasworks (once between 1899 and 1901 and again in 1907), which was expanded in 1901.

The telescope gasometer, which was built at the same time, existed until 1925, while the gasworks ceased operations in 1912, like all the gasworks of the Imperial Continental Gas Association in Vienna.

Reuse

Hietzinger Sandwerke & Baustoff-Großhandel , which existed until 1950, is named as a subsequent user of the gas works area . Today, in this section of Deutschordensstrasse, the community housing complex Hugo-Breitner-Hof and the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium of SK Rapid Vienna are located.
