The Gateway Pass is an 8 km long mountain pass in the east of Alexander I Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It runs between the Astartehorn and the Offset Ridge .
The British Directorate of Overseas Surveys mapped it in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey using satellite images from NASA . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it so in 1974 because it provides access to the interior of Alexander I Island from the head of the Venus Glacier .
