The Gatorade Center is a multifunctional hall in the Finnish city of Turku . It is mainly used for ice hockey games and is the home arena of TPS Turku . In 2016 the hall was renamed the Gatorade Center.
history
The building was opened as Typhoon Arena in 1990 and can accommodate 11,820 spectators. It is 135 meters long, 110 meters wide and 40 meters high. In addition to ice hockey, the hall is also used for concerts and operas.
The Gatorade Center was designed by Casagrande ja Haroma Oy and cost 145 million Finnmark (24.4 million euros ). The city of Turku paid 95 million Finnmarks (16 million euros) of this.
The hall was named Elysée Arena in the summer of 1994 after a renovation, when it was named after its main sponsor. In 1996 and 1997, the hall was expanded by an extension that contained a second entrance, 28 new VIP boxes and space for a new restaurant and a new lobby.
The arena was one of three venues for the 2003 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship . In 2017, the Europeade , the largest European costume and folklore festival, took place in it.
