The Gauthier Point ( French Pointe Gauthier ) is the northern branch of the Doumer Island in the West Antarctic Palmer Archipelago .
They were discovered by participants in the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903-1905) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named it after François Mathurin Gautier [sic!] (1832–1918), the builder of his expedition ships Français and Pourquoi-Pas? . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee converted this designation into English, keeping the incorrect spelling.
