Gavriil Musicescu

Gavriil Musicescu (born March 20, 1847 in Ismajil , † December 8, 1903 in Iași ) was a Romanian composer.

Musicescu studied after attending the Theological Seminary in Huși from 1864 to 1866 at the Conservatory of Iași and from 1870 to 1872 in Saint Petersburg . From 1872 he taught harmony at the Conservatory of Iași, which he directed from 1901. He was also a music professor at the Școala normală from 1899 to 1903 . Between 1864 and 1866 he sang in the theater choir and in the municipal choir of Iași, which he also directed from 1876 to 1903.

Musicescu emerged as a composer of sacred and secular choral songs, in which he processed Romanian folk melodies. He was the father of the pianist and music teacher Florica Musicescu .
