The Gaye Bykers on Acid (GBOA) were a British psychedelic rock band and co-founders of Grebo music. They later released Thrash Punk under different names.

history

The Gaye Bykers on Acid were founded in 1984 by Ian Reynolds (Robber) and Ian Hoxley (Mary). Art student and guitarist Tony Horsfall and drummer Kevin Hyde joined them later. The GBOA made its first public appearance in 1985 at the Princess Charlotte in Leicester.

The first two releases, the singles Everythang's Groovy and Nosedive Karma EP , were recorded in Leeds with Jon Langford from The Mekons and released on the InTape label. The next records, the albums Drill Your Own Hole and Stewed to the Gills , were released through Virgin Records .

They appeared under the name Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds in women's clothing as their own opening act. Another alias of the Gaye Bykers on Acid was the fictional East German trash punk band Rektüm . The LP Sakredanus and the EP Real Horror Show were also released under this name .

In 1989, the GBOA were fired from Virgin due to poor record sales and management problems. The next LP Cancer Planet Mission was released on their own label Naked Brain. The last studio LP with Jon Langford, Pernicious Nonsense , came out in 1990. They also release other LPs as The Purple Fluid Exchange (PFX). After several tours in the United States and Great Britain, the Gaye Bykers on Acid broke up.
