Gazzetta Chimica Italiana , mostly just as gazz. Chim. Ital. (Abbreviation in older quotations: Gazz. ), Called, was an important specialist journal in the field of chemistry .

The journal was founded in Italy in 1871 by Stanislao Cannizzaro , professor of chemistry at the University of Palermo and Emanuele Paternò (employee of Cannizzaro, later professor at La Sapienza University in Rome).

In 1998 the journal was merged with other European national journals of organic chemistry to form the European Journal of Organic Chemistry . In the field of inorganic chemistry, the European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry was formed at the same time .
