Geasa is an Irish Celtic / Black Metal band from Dublin . The name is the plural of the word Geis , which is a kind of taboo from Irish mythology and folklore.
history
The band was formed in 1994 by front man Draighean. The first Starside demo was released in 1996. Due to the mostly positive reviews and the success of the demo, the French label Season of Mist became aware of the band and signed them in 1998. The first studio album, Angel's Cry , was recorded in October 1999 at Tico-Tico Studio in Finland . Soon afterwards Geasa switched to the Irish label Acheron Records and in 2003 released the second album, Fates Lost Son , which contained a newly mastered version of the Starside demo as bonus tracks. The third album, .Godslaughter. , was released in 2006 via Dark Music Productions after another label change .
style
At the beginning of their career the style of the band was based on the Norwegian Black Metal in the style of Darkthrone , whereby the lyrics were already more pagan than satanic in nature. In the course of time, elements of pagan metal increasingly appeared in the music, for example acoustic passages and elements of Celtic folk music .
