The prayer book of Charles the Bold is one of the main works of book illumination of the Renaissance . It is a work commissioned by Charles the Bold (1433–1477), which occupies a key position in Flemish book art and is now in the Getty Museum in Los Angeles ( Sign. Ms. 37 ).

The codex , which is 12.4 cm × 9.2 cm in size, contains 47 miniatures on 318 parchment pages and over 360 decorative initials on a chased gold background . Decorated with exuberant gold jewelry, the work was described by Karl's illuminator Lieven van Lathem and his most famous calligrapher Nicolas Spierinck and provided with numerous cadels .

Three portraits of the client attest to the very personal relationship Charles had with his prayer book.
