The expression security is used to describe a state of security and wellbeing. Security is more than just security, protection and invulnerability; Security also symbolizes closeness, warmth, peace and quiet. The term is generally considered untranslatable , but it also exists in Dutch and Afrikaans , but is missing in English , French and Russian .

The word was chosen as the second most beautiful word in the German language in 2004 as part of an international competition initiated by the German Language Council and the Goethe Institute . It was submitted by Annamaria Musakova from Slovakia on the grounds that an equivalent term was missing in her language.

The psychologist Hans Mogel describes security as a central attitude towards life . Its definition includes the terms security, wellbeing, trust , satisfaction , acceptance and love by others. Psychologists and educators consider the experience of security in childhood to be essential for the development of a stable personality . Furthermore, security is a basic requirement for children's play .
