Gebwin coat of arms

The Gebwin were a family in Heilbronn that emerged from the Lords of Rothenburg . Heinrich I von Rothenburg, who was married to Gutta von Weinsberg, is considered the progenitor of this line.

The Gebwin family has been documented in Heilbronn since 1278 and belonged to those patrician families from Heilbronn who obtained the fiefdom of Neckargartach from the Lords of Weinsberg , which marked the beginning of the historical ties between Neckargartach and Heilbronn. In this district, Gebwinstraße is still named after the patrician family.

A Gebwin († 1357 in Heilbronn ) was a mint master in the Heilbronn Mint and a judge, possibly also holding a mayor's office. On his death in 1357 an anniversary foundation was set up in Kilian's Church.

Gebwin appears in the history of the city of Heilbronn both as a personal and family name. They are referred to as “probably the most important patrician family in the city”. Gebwin also appears as a first name in the Heilbronn families of Wigmar and Volmar. The Gebwin also had the surname "Münzmeister", "Lemlin" and "Gemminger". The gender goes back to the Carolingian line of the Robertines . A branch of this sex was in Freiburg im Breisgau. There, too, they accompanied the noble office of mint master and were members of the council. The Middle Franconian and Upper Palatinate lines often accompanied the gift office .
