Thought Field Therapy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Thought Field Therapy ( TFT ) ( "Thought Field Therapy") is a complementary medical methods of American psychotherapist Roger J. Callahan , the founder of Energy Psychology . Thought Field Therapy , just like the further development Evolving Thought Field Therapy (EvTFT), although it partly includes aspects of meridian acupuncture , is one of the procedures of so-called energy medicine.

As with all para or pseudoscientific procedures, medical effectiveness has not been scientifically proven.

history

In the late 1970s, Callahan began to combine elements of clinical psychology , traditional Chinese medicine and kinesiology and called the method "Thought Field Therapy". From this several variants of energetic psychology have developed since the 1980s, the treatment processes of which differ more or less strongly from Callahan's approach.

methodology

According to its representatives, "thought field therapy" is a fast-acting, process-oriented short-term therapy method that includes the body or an assumed "physical energy system". The TFT method is sometimes referred to as psychological acupuncture .

According to their representatives, thought field therapy is a comprehensive and complex psychotherapy approach .

After previous diagnostic methods from clinical psychology and applied kinesiology, mental or physical complaints are mentally and emotionally focused. At the same time, so-called meridian points are stimulated with the fingers by touching, massaging or tapping . According to the TFT users, this is intended to bring the body's energy system into balance, which is intended to erase the symptoms.

Roger J. Callahan also coined the term "psychological reversal" ( psychological reversal ), which is an umbrella term and explanation for various energy-related psychological blockages and so-called resistances that impede treatment progress in his theory or even prevent. In Fred P. Gallo's approach, however, this can be bypassed by changing the logical level and re-testing; new aspects of the problem may have to be considered and dealt with separately. A simple muscle test acts as a test for passing any obstacles.

Since he attached great importance to these resistances, Callahan developed several corrective procedures to treat them, such as: B. the "PU correction" and the so-called collarbone breathing technique (German: clavicle breathing).

criticism

A few studies that have been commissioned by providers on the effectiveness of TFT, TAT and EFT , depending on the interpretation, allow a possible effectiveness as a conclusion; however, they do not meet scientific standards.

Since neither the effectiveness of the TFT nor the postulated energy nor the existence of a meridian system has been proven, the TFT and related methods are classified as esoteric or pseudoscience .
