Gediminas Rastenis (born April 25, 1954 in Panevėžys ) is a Lithuanian chess trainer, correspondence chess player and international champion in correspondence chess (IM).

Trainer

From 1976 to 1992 and from 1995 he worked as a chess trainer at the Vilnius Chess School . He trained Viktorija Čmilytė and Kamilė Baginskaitė .

Correspondence chess

From 1972 to 1974 Rastenis was Lithuanian champion in correspondence chess . In 1989 he won the finals of the 26th European Correspondence Chess Championship that had started 6 years earlier.

In 1986 he had already been awarded the title of "International Correspondence Chess Master" (IM) at the ICCF Congress. In 1987 Rastenis took part in the 3/4 final tournament of the 14th ICCF World Chess Championship, but finished last. He also came in last at the invitation tournament "100 Years of Lithuania", which was held between 1988 and 1991. This was followed by a longer break on the international correspondence chess floor.

In 2004 Rastenis appeared on the 4th board of the Lithuanian team in the final of the 13th Correspondence Chess Olympiad. After a weak start with only one draw from four completed games, he withdrew from the tournament and was replaced by Vytautas Sutkus .

His rating in correspondence chess is 2236 (as of April 1, 2008). Rastenis has been inactive since then.

Close chess

His highest rating in local chess was 2333 from July 2000 to July 2014. At the 2008 Chess Olympiad in Dresden , he was team captain of the Lithuanian women's national team.
