The Geelong Football Club is an Australian football -Mannschaft from Geelong , Victoria , in the Australian Football League plays (AFL). Her nickname is The Cats .

history

The Geelong Football Club was founded in 1859 and is one of the oldest clubs in the AFL. The club took part in the first football competition in Australia and won it in the second season in 1863. The club was one of the founders of the Victorian Football Association (VFA) in 1877 and the Victorian Football League (VFL) in 1897 in 1897 In 2007, Geelong won the Grand Final by a record 119 points clear of the Port Adelaide team. In 2009, the Cats prevailed in the final against St. Kilda. Also in 2011 they won the Grand Final , this time against the team from Collingwood.

To date, the club has won nine championships in the AFL: 1925, 1931, 1937, 1951, 1952, 1963, 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Stadium and club colors

The home of the Geelong Cats is Kardinia Park , but the club also plays at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Docklands Stadium . The traditional colors of the club are white with dark blue stripes. The jersey consists of horizontally arranged stripes in dark blue and white. The pants are white and the socks are also striped blue and white. The team song is called "We Are Geelong". The nickname "The Cats" was used after a series of defeats in 1923. The association hired a local cartoonist to design a logo for them with a black cat as a good luck charm.
