Geeno Smith (born May 6, 1979 in Nuremberg ; actually Gunther Göbbel ), also known as Geeno Fabulous , is a German DJ, singer and music producer.

biography

Günther Göbbel grew up with his father after his parents divorced and completed a commercial apprenticeship in a music business. He completed several years of dance training and performed professionally as a background dancer. In 2003 he took part in the second season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar and made it to the eighth theme show before he got the fewest audience votes of the five remaining participants and was eliminated.

Together with Sedat Türüc (former band member of Become One ) Göbbel then formed the duo Meant 2 Be , which released the single Caramba in September 2004 .

Then he teamed up under the name Geeno with the rapper Jay Low and formed the duo Lemon Ice with him from 2004 . With their version of the classic Stand by Me by Ben E. King , they had a hit in 2006 that narrowly missed the German Top 10 . After a few more hits, they separated again in 2009.

In the 2010s he turned away from singing and became a DJ and music producer with his own label Utopic Music . In his hometown of Nuremberg he was Geeno Fabulous Resident DJ in the Goija disco until it closed in 2015 and he switched to the Indabahn .

At year-end, he was the New Year's Eve show Welcome 2016 the ZDF engaged. As Geeno Smith , he played his new version of Stand by Me there for the first time , which he had recorded together with the Brazilian singer Jay del Alma from Pachanga, with text partially translated into Spanish. After its official release on January 8, 2016, his Tropical House mix rose to number one on the iTunes download charts. In the official charts, Stand by Me reached the top 20 after a week.
