The doftana prison is located in the Prahova County in Romania and was built 1895th During the 1930s there were also political prisoners there, including communists such as Nicolae Ceaușescu , Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej and Chivu Stoica , who would later occupy central positions in the Socialist Republic of Romania . The later Methodist pastor Richard Wurmbrand was an inmate there as a PCR member and communist, and the Transylvanian-Saxon politician Rudolf Brandsch died there in 1953. But fascists such as Corneliu Zelea Codreanu and Horia Sima were also imprisoned there.

Doftana is located a few kilometers from the town of Câmpina and was named after the Doftana river . The prison was converted into a museum after 1945, in which the imprisonment of the communist founders was commemorated. After the revolution of 1989 , during which the former Doftana inmate and Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu was shot dead, the museum fell into disrepair. Today the Doftana prison is used as a paintball venue.
