The Wilkenburg Memorial

The Fallen Memorial is a listed war memorial in Wilkenburg , a district of Hemmingen in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . The annual memorial event with wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the victims of both world wars , persecution and displacement takes place at the memorial on the day of national mourning .

Behind the obelisk are the memorial plaques for the Second World War

The memorial is on Kirchstrasse in front of the Wilkenburg St. Vitus Church .

An obelisk stands on a multi-level substructure . The middle part of the obelisk is provided with the raised relief of a helmeted soldier's head and the inscription 1914–1918 .

The large sandstone cuboid in the substructure is decorated on the front with a carved relief garland of honor . It frames the inscription

Further inscriptions on the sides give the surname and first name of 17 fallen soldiers in the First World War .

Behind the obelisk there are stone tablets with the surnames and first names of 63 fallen soldiers of the Second World War .

According to the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge, there are two war dead in the cemetery in Wilkenburg .
