The smoothed leaf beetle ( Chrysolina polita ) is a beetle from the family of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae).
features
The smoothed leaf beetle is 6.5 to 8.5 mm long. The head, pronotum and shield are metallic, shiny, greenish to coppery. The red-brown elytra are without metal shimmer.
distribution
The beetle species is common throughout the Palearctic .
Way of life
The beetles fly from March to October. They are mostly found on mint plants such as mint , lemon balm , sage , common dost or Gundermann .
Taxonomy
The species was first described as Chrysomela polita Linnaeus in 1758. It belongs within the genus Chrysolina to the subgenus Erythrochrysa and is its type species . The Chrysomela menthae cabinet , described from Baden-Württemberg , 1776 (also in the combinations Chrysolina menthae , Chrysolina polita menthae ) is considered a synonym of this species.
In addition to the nominate form , the following subspecies are given:
- Chrysolina polita adamsi ( Baly , 1879). Iran, Northwest China, Mongolia.
- Chrysolina polita ogloblini ( Ter-Minasian , 1950). Armenia.
