The Gehrlicher Group is an international company in the photovoltaic industry with headquarters in Haar near Munich and project experience on four continents. It develops and implements photovoltaic systems on open spaces and roofs from commercial operations to multi-megawatt systems, integrating components from its own “GehrTec” product family and offering service and maintenance. The group also sets up private placement systems and photovoltaic funds for private and institutional investors.

history

Today's Gehrlicher Solar AG has its beginnings in Enersys Energiesysteme Gehrlicher, a company that was founded in 1994 by Klaus Gehrlicher. The fields of activity at that time were photovoltaics , solar thermal energy and energy consulting . From 1998 the company concentrated on ever larger photovoltaic on-grid systems. In 1999 the company activities were transferred to Gehrlicher Umweltschonende Energiesysteme GmbH. Gehrlicher Solar Management GmbH was founded as an independent sister company in 2004. In 2007, the name of Gehrlicher Umweltschonende Energiesysteme GmbH was changed to Gehrlicher Solar AG. In 2008 the company started operating photovoltaic power plants through a cooperation with the Munich municipal utilities .

On July 8, 2013, the company filed for bankruptcy because it was unable to continue to fulfill the conditions of the loan agreement for 85 million euros with a bank consortium. According to Gehrlicher Solar AG, the main reason for filing for bankruptcy was the introduction of punitive tariffs for Chinese photovoltaic modules, which the company mainly uses in its systems. According to information from the insolvency administrator Oliver Schartl, the company had already made significant losses in 2012. While the company had up to 400 employees at its peak, by the time of bankruptcy the number of employees had already dropped to around 150.

With a management buy-out of the maintenance business and transfer to the newly founded Gehrlicher Solar Services GmbH, the basis for the continuation of the project business was created in March 2014.
