Geiersthal is the eponymous place of the municipality Geiersthal , district of Regen in the Bavarian Forest.

history

The first verifiable mention of the place comes from the year 1209. In the parish register of the diocese of Regensburg from the year 1286 the parish of Geiersthal is also mentioned. The mother parish counted in 1300, including Geiersthal 13 places that grew to 50 villages by the middle of the 18th century. Geiersthal belonged to the Straubing Rent Office and the Viechtach Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria .

The lawyer Friedrich Freiherr v. Comes from Geiersthal . Wulffen (1790-1858). From 1843 to 1846 he was district president of Lower Bavaria and was a member of the right-wing center of the Frankfurt National Assembly in 1848/49. From 1855 he was president of the highest court in Bavaria, the Higher Appeal Court in Munich.

Negotiations had been going on since 1886 to move the parish seat from Geiersthal to Teisnach, which had become the most important place in the parish since the Teisnach paper mill was founded in 1881. Finally, a new parish church was built in Teisnach, while the nave of the dilapidated Geiersthal parish church was demolished under police protection. The remaining apse was converted into a cemetery chapel. In 1903 the parish seat was relocated to Teisnach.
