The Brienz Violin Making School ( Swiss School of Violin Making ) is the only violin making school in Switzerland . It is located in Brienz next to the wood carving school.

history

The school was founded in 1944 as the Swiss School of Violin Making; its first teacher was Adolf König . After the school was initially organized privately, it was transferred to a state school in 1952 and operated by the Canton of Bern under the name of the Brienz Cantonal Violin Making School . The Brienz Violin Making Foundation has been the sponsor of the school since 1998 , which has been called the Brienz Violin Making School ever since .

education

The school offers ten training positions. The training to become a violin maker takes four years. The construction of violins, violas and cellos is taught, as well as service work on bows. A total of 170 violin makers had been trained at the school by 2016. Guided tours of the violin making school are offered by appointment.
