Geistesblitz or Geistes Blitz is a card and reaction game by the Luxembourg game designer Jacques Zeimet , which was published in 2010 by Zoch Spiele and internationally by other publishers. In 2011 it was included on the jury's list of recommendations for Game of the Year and nominated for the German Learning Game Award.

Theme and equipment

Geistesblitz is a reaction game in which up to six other players react as quickly as possible to a card and have to take a wooden object from the table accordingly. Thematically, the game is embedded in a ghost story in which a house ghost takes photos of objects and himself with his camera, but the camera swaps the colors of the objects.

In addition to instructions, the game material consists of 60 cards and five wooden figures (a ghost, a bottle, a mouse, an armchair and a book).

Style of play

To prepare for the game, the five wooden figures are laid out in the middle of the table. The cards are shuffled and are also placed in the middle of the table as a face-down draw pile.

The cards show two objects or the ghost in different colors. One player reveals the top card from the stack of cards and the other players now have to grab the object as quickly as possible, which is depicted in the correct color corresponding to the wooden figure. If none of the objects are shown correctly, players must grab the item that is not shown and its color is not shown. The person who took the object first receives the card and turns over the next card from the stack.

As a variant, an additional rule can be introduced, according to which whenever a book is shown, the object must not be snapped, but the desired object must be called.

Whenever a player has taken a wrong piece or has caught instead of shouting or called instead of snapping, he must surrender a card he has already won. When the deck of cards is used up, the game ends; The winner is the player with the most cards won.

Publications

The game Geistesblitz was developed by Jacques Zeimet on the basis of the game Knapp beside it , which he published at Haba in 2004 , and was published by Zoch Spiele for the International Game Days in Essen in 2010 as a multilingual version in English, French, German and Italian. In the years that followed, it appeared in numerous other languages.

In 2012, based on the game, the continuation was released as Geistesblitz 2.0 and in 2013 the game Geistesblitz 5 vor 12 . In 2015 Geistesblitz: Spooky Doo appeared in a new design in a tin can in the shape of a ghost and in 2018, Geistesblitz Junior, a version of the game for children from 4 years of age, was released. In 2017 there was also a free demo game from Geistesblitz that only consists of cards.
