Grigor Jeghiasarjan (also Grigor Yeghiazaryan and Grigor Eghiazari Eghiazaryan , Armenian Գրիգոր Եղիազարյան , Russian Григорий Егиазарович Егиазарян Grigori Jegiasarowitsch Jegiasarjan  ; born December 8 jul. / 21st December  1908 greg. In Blur, government Yerevan , Russian Empire , now Turkey , † 4 November 1988 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet composer and music teacher of Armenian origin.

life and work

Grigor Jeghiasarjan grew up in the village of Blur in Ujesd Surmali. He later moved to Yerevan with his family . In the turmoil after the First World War he lost his family and became an orphan. During this difficult time he discovered music for himself. At the Moscow Conservatory he received basic lessons in music theory, later in composition. One of his teachers was Nikolai Yakovlevich Myaskovsky . Yeghiasarjan graduated from the Conservatory in 1935. From 1936 to 1938 he taught at the Leninankan Music Academy . In 1938 he went to Yerevan, where he taught at the music school and the conservatory. He led composition classes. In 1939 he published a rhapsody for orchestra, in 1942 the symphonic poem Armenija and in 1943 a violin concerto. In 1952 he published the symphonic picture К восходу солнца [At sunrise]. From 1952 to 1955 he was chairman of the Association of Armenian Composers. From 1954 to 1960 he was director of the Yerevan State Conservatory . He published the ballet   Севан [Sevan] in 1955 in Yerevan. He was appointed professor in 1959. In 1960 the symphony Раздан [Hrasdan] was published. In 1961 he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the Armenian SSR . In 1970 he received the State Prize of the Armenian SSR . In the same year he published the ballet Озеро грез [Lake of Dreams] in Yerevan . In 1972 the ballet Ара Прекрасный и Семирамида [Ara the Beautiful and Semiramis] followed. In 1977 he received the honorary title of People's Artist of the USSR . His students included Aleksandr Ajemjan , Emin Aristakesjan , Grigor Hachinjan (1926–1991), Edgar Howhannisjan , Geghuni Tschittschjan (* 1929) and Martun Israjeljan (* 1938).

Yeghiasarjan also wrote piano pieces, choirs, romances and songs as well as music for theater and film music.

reception

From March 5th to 9th, 2018 the 9th Armenian Composers' Art Festival [9. Art Festival of Armenian Composers]. It was dedicated to Grigor Yeghiasarjan, whose birthday was the 110th anniversary, and various works by his hand were performed.
