The yellow fleckleibbär or yellow tiger moth ( Spilosoma lutea ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the subfamily of the bear moth (Arctiinae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 30 to 42 millimeters. They have yellow fore wings on which a very variable, oblique row of black dots is visible. Her body is ringed black and yellow.

The caterpillars are colored whitish or light brown (depending on age) and have a brown back line. They are very hairy light brown. Her head is also light brown.

Occurrence

They are found all over Europe , except in the far north, and east to Japan . They live on the edges of forests and in warm and open areas and gardens. They prefer higher air humidity and are therefore bound to woody areas. They fly from May to July and August to September.

Way of life

The animals are nocturnal and two-brood (form a second generation in autumn).
