The Yellow House in Flims in Surselva in Graubünden is an old farmhouse redesigned by the architect Valerio Olgiati on the main road in the Flims-Dorf district, which was plastered and painted in yellow (hence the name) until the renovation.

During the renovation, which was completed in 1999, the building was completely gutted, the entrance was moved from the street to the east side and the roof was covered with white-painted slates. It is painted completely white; a condition for the transfer of the building to the political community of Flims by Rudolf Olgiati , Valerios' father. The square, deeply built-in windows on three sides of the facade are striking. The oldest structure includes a natural stone wall in the lower part of the building. A column running through the intermediate floors divides the floors into quarters.

“The artificial surface creates a distance to the local historical patina and closeness to a modern architecture that alienates itself with ideas [...] So you have to look behind the image of the white cube, so to speak, so that the real thing becomes visible. It is a tent held in place by a single solid wood pole, bent at the top, which, after the house has been hollowed out, is placed asymmetrically in the room, supports the floors and the hipped roof, the slate of which - according to the idea - is also whitewashed. "

The Yellow House serves as an exhibition and conference venue on topics of Alpine architecture. The association “The Yellow House” is responsible for the operation and the exhibitions.
