The Gelecek Partisi (short name: GP ; Turkish for: "Future Party") is a party founded in Turkey in 2019 .
history
The party founder is the former prime minister and AKP chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu , who resigned from these offices in May 2016. As the reason for this, he named differences with the party executive.
On September 13, 2019, Davutoğlu announced that he had resigned from the AKP because it had deviated too much from its original values. At the same time he confirmed his desire to found a new party. This took place on December 12, 2019, when Davutoğlu gave a speech to founding members and criticized the current situation in Turkey in various areas. He promised an independence of the judiciary, freedom of expression and a stronger civil society. Among other things, he called for a move away from the presidential system introduced in 2018 .
"In a time of authoritarian and populist tendencies in the world, we must build a country in which honorable people live with their heads held high and with free will."
