The learned society ( Učená společnost ) was founded around 1770 in Prague . In 1775 it was renamed “Bohemian Scholars Private Company”.

history

The learned society , an informal grouping of scientists, was formed around the person of Ignaz von Born . From 1775 to 1784, several German treatises were published under the title Abhandlungen einer Privatgesellschaft in Böhmen, to take up mathematics, patriotic history, and natural history , which were among the oldest periodical scientific publications. Even if the society did not manage to publish this periodical on a regular basis, it was at the time a platform on which scientific results could be published.

In addition to the initially mathematical and physical texts, scientific and social contributions were added later, written by Jan Tesánek , Joseph Stepling and Jakub Filip Kulik , among others .

In 1775 the learned society was renamed "Bohemian learned private company". In 1784, the “Bohemian Society of Sciences” was created, the successor of which in 1790 was the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences .
