The Geltenhütte is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) owned by the SAC section Oldenhornam at the foot of the Wildhorn and in the Gelten - Iffigen nature reserve. The hut is named after the Geltental . This is used with the Geltenalp. Yaks and Simmental cows graze in the area.
hut
The comfortable hut is located at an altitude of 2002 m . It has 84 beds in 4 to 10 beds per room. It is the starting point for numerous hikes and mountain tours.
The accommodation was built in 1926, partially destroyed by an avalanche in 1940 , rebuilt in another location in 1969 and expanded in 2014. In 1998 a small hydropower plant was built. Since then, the hut has been able to provide around 90% of its own energy.
Access
The hut can be reached in 2 hours from Lake Lauenen in summer .
In winter, tourers can comfortably take the gondola lift from Col du Pillon to Glacier 3000 and then get to the hut via the Arpelistock. Many ski tourers continue towards the Wildhorn-Wildhornhütte the next day. But there are more tours to discover in the area.
