The common gold wasp or fire gold wasp ( Chrysis ignita ) is a species from the family of gold wasps (Chrysididae).

features

The common golden wasp reaches a very different body length from 4 to 13 millimeters and has a slim build. Your head and thorax are bright green-blue and often have a golden, metallic sheen. Your abdomen is copper-red to red, metallic-shiny, but the underside is metallic green or blue. Four small teeth can be seen on the rear edge of the tergite of the last abdominal segment. The surface of this tergite is also clearly more finely dotted than that of the penultimate one. The size of the species varies so much because it infects a wide range of hosts and the larvae eat differently.

Occurrence

The animals occur in Europe and West Asia practically everywhere where there are stinging voices , but they prefer dry and sunny areas. They are the most common type of golden wasps in Central Europe and fly from April to September.

Way of life and reproduction

The animals live parasitically on a wide variety of stinging voices, such as pleated and dig wasps , but also wall bees and fur bees . These very different ways of life are perhaps due to the fact that there are actually several not yet differentiated species. This is not unlikely due to the already difficult differentiation of the species within the genus.

The females lay their eggs individually in the nests aculeater hymenoptera such. B. Mason bees and clay wasps . The larva first eats the egg or the already hatched larva of its host and then its food supplies. Then it pupates in the strange nest.
