The Gemeinnützige Ambulanz und Rettungsdienst GmbH (GARD for short) is a medium-sized Hamburg rescue service company , which was founded in 1983 by Holger Jarmuth under the name "Ambulanz Hamburg" and was renamed to its current name in 1992 after mergers with other companies. GARD has been the only private company to have had a license for emergency rescue in Hamburg since 1985 .

Today, after the merger with promedica Rettungsdienst GmbH in 2011, GARD is the largest rescue service company in Germany. In 2013 the GARD group merged with the international Falck group.

The managing directors are Lars Tue Toftild, Klaus Runggaldier and Thilo Heinrich.

The company operates at four locations across Germany.

The company has been active with an ITW in the state capital of Dresden since July 2015. After winning a tender, GARD took over a rescue station in the Stade district in January 2017 and received an award for exemplary occupational safety from the city of Hamburg. Since December 2018, GARD has provided eight ambulances for the regular rescue service in Hamburg , which are dispatched from the fire brigade operations center. In Duisburg , the company also has three guards.
