Homeowners Community

The community of apartment owners (GdW) is a non-party interest group for apartment owners and apartment owners in Austria with its seat in Vienna . It is consulted by the Federal Ministry of Justice as well as the Austrian National Council to assess draft laws.

The community was founded in 1964 by a citizens' initiative in a large Viennese residential complex to ward off grievances for which the developer and property management were responsible. The interest group is organized through an association, currently the lawyer Dr. Werner Steiner the chairman of the association. Personal consultations are offered in Vienna , Innsbruck , Salzburg and Graz and around 3000 consultations are carried out annually.

The aim of the GdW is to improve the situation of apartment owners in general and in individual cases and to create a balanced relationship, for example between apartment owners on the one hand and apartment owners and administrators on the other.

The association publishes the four times a year GdW-Informations, Austria's consumer magazine for questions of home ownership, as well as leaflets and forms.
