The Hattingen joint venture was a coal-fired power station on Isenbergstrasse in Hattingen . It was built in 1911/1912 by the companies Elektrizitätswerk Westfalen and Wuppertaler Stadtwerke AG , among others . From 1925 it belonged to the United Electricity Works Westphalia . The reasons for choosing the location were its convenient location to coal, water and customers. The power station was connected to the Alte Haase colliery by a cable car. Over a period of around 38 years, around 1.5 million tons of coal were transported from the Alte Haase colliery to the joint venture via the cable car and converted into electricity. Later there was a switch from coal to gas. The joint venture was shut down in 1984. Demolition work began in 1985. Today there is a large substation at this point .

The company of the same name, based in Essen, was retained.

The company has a 12% stake in the THTR-300 nuclear power plant .
