Gemen is a farming community and one of three districts of Schöppingen . Gemen had a total of 341 inhabitants in 2011.
history
After a plague epidemic in 1636, the farmers in Gemen made the vow to celebrate the feast of St. Anthony on January 17th every year and built a plague chapel. A school was established in Gemen in the 18th century. In 1923 the church of St. Antonius Abbot was inaugurated in Gemen . In 2013, the parish of St. Antonius Gemen as well as the Eggerod parish of St. Mariä Birth lost their independence with the merger under St. Brictius Schöppingen .

In Gemen, the feast of St. Anthony is celebrated annually on January 17th and a shooting festival every two years in July.
