He signed a contract with Imperial Records and held his first session on January 1, 1954 at Jim Beck's studio in Dallas , Texas , which produced Diggin 'and Datin' . Another session about five months later resulted in Rockin 'Baby , his second single. Both songs stood between country and rockabilly .

From 1954 Henslee also worked as a disc jokey on the radio station KIHN in Hugo , Oklahoma . He interrupted his recording work until 1963 when he recorded titles for United Artists Records . In the next few years more records followed with Josie, Brownfield, Robbie, Starday , Le Cam, Billie Fran and GG Records. Henslee was also one of the few country musicians who recorded for the famous Motown label in Detroit , Michigan . Motown celebrated great success with soul in the 1960s, but also operated the sub-label Mel-O-Dy, where Henslee released a single.

For the Starday tribute album, which honored Bob Wills , Henslee wrote the final number in 1970 and recorded his own Bob Wills album in 1975 under the title The Boy From Turkey Texas . Henslee recorded most of his 1960s productions at Cliff Hering's recording studio in Fort Worth , Texas; From the mid-1970s onwards, things got quieter around him.
