In the 1976 NFL Draft , the Cleveland Browns selected him in the fourth round. However, Swick played poorly in training camp due to a sore arm, which is why the Browns dismissed him in July 1976. After a later trial with the New York Giants , the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from the Canadian Football League (CFL) signed him with a two-year contract. However, he didn't play a game here either.

An anniversary team was elected for the 100th anniversary of the Rockets. Swick ended up being the third quarterback in tenth place.
