Gene Warren
Gene Warren (* 12. August 1916 in Boulder (Colorado) , United States ; † 17th July 1997 in Los Angeles ) was an American special effects -Designer short film producer , short film director and Oscar winner .
Live and act
Warren began working as an illustrator in various short Hollywood films immediately after World War II . Ten years later, in 1956, he switched to the special effects sector and focused his work on the genres of fantasy and science fiction film. The director George Pal , for whom he worked again as a draftsman for Little Thumble in 1957 , brought Warren together with his colleague Tim Baar to design the extensive special effects for the H.G. Wells film adaptation The Time Machine . Both work was rewarded with an Oscar in 1961. Warren and Baar also worked together as a team on the genre classics The Ruler of Cornwall , Murderersaurs and The Wonder World of the Brothers Grimm , which followed in quick succession at the beginning of the 1960s , while the Pal productions Atlantis, the Lost Continent and The Six Suspects were other colleagues Warren's partner.
In later years, Gene Warren rarely appeared as a designer of special effects, but concentrated entirely on running his company, Excelsior Productions, which specializes in these things. He also temporarily headed two other production companies. As a producer and director, he recorded also responsible for a number of short films, including The Tool Box, Suzy Snowflake, Santa and the Three Dwarfs and Land of the Midnight Sun . Gene Warren was also responsible for the production of short educational films, which had such bland titles as Mariner I, Mariner III and Apollo (prescribed by the US Navy) .
