Generał is the four-part TV series version of the film Crash over Gibraltar from 2009 by Anna Jadowska . The four-part television series contains additional documentation material to embed the film in its historical context.

General Władysław Sikorski is the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Armed Forces and President of the government in exile . After having leaked documents about the Katyn massacre , in which over 25,000 Polish officers and intellectuals from various professions were murdered on the orders of Stalin, he wants to make them public to the world. However, England and the USA need Russia as an ally against Nazi Germany, which they would not be defensible to the world public if the massacre became known. Governor Noel Mason-MacFarlane is tasked with preventing Sikorski from forwarding the documents about the massacre by all means. Sikorski refuses, although a courier tries to warn him. Sikorski is murdered by Czarny and faked a plane crash in which Sikorski is said to have died.

As with the previous one in the movie , the series triggered a public review and controversial discussion of what happened at the time. One opinion suspects a conspiracy theory behind the plane crash near Gibraltar (1943) .
