General Güemes is the capital of the General Güemes department of the same name in the province of Salta in northwest Argentina . It is located 50 kilometers from the provincial capital Salta . In the classification of the municipalities of the province it belongs to the municipalities of the 1st category.
history
The city was named in honor of the fighter for independence from Spain, Martín Miguel de Güemes (1785–1821).
