General Motors Egypt SAE ( Arabic جنرال موتورز مصر, or GME for short ) is an automobile manufacturer in the city ​​of October 6th .

The company is a joint venture that General Motors has a 31% stake in and the management of, while Isuzu owns 20% and a group of Egyptian and Saudi investors 33 and 16%, respectively.

history

The company was founded in 1983. Production at the plant, which opened the following year, began in 1985.

In 2010 the company employed around 1200 people. According to the company, it is one of GM's CKD assembly companies with the lowest manufacturing costs.

Various Opel, Chevrolet and Isuzu models as well as minibuses and pick-ups have been and are being manufactured. The local production share for passenger cars is 45% and 65 to 72% for trucks and buses.

The plant has been assembling CKD kits of the SGMW N300 as a Chevrolet Move since 2012 .
