Generalization (disease)

In internal medicine, generalization is the term used to describe the spread of a disease or its effects on the whole body - one then speaks of a general disease - or a patient's organ system . In the other case, the disease is called local if the disease is restricted to one organ or part of the body . The same applies in pharmacology to the effect of drugs in therapeutic application.

Typical examples are:

  • Generalized infection ( generalized infection ): spread of a pathogen throughout the body
  • Generalized seizure , the seizure activity throughout the brain in epileptology
  • Generalized rash , spreading a rash on the whole skin as an organ system
