Gennadi Alamija

Gennadi Alamia (* 1949 , in Kutol, Abkhazia , Russian. Геннадий Аламия, Gennadij Alamija ) is an Abkhazian politician, poet and playwright .

He first studied physics and mathematics in the Abkhazian capital Sukhumi , but then moved to Moscow and studied at the Maxim Gorki Literature Institute , where he graduated. There he met the writer of the same age Denis Tschatschchalia , who later translated many of Alamia's works into Russian.

After Abkhazia's declaration of independence in 1992, Gennadi Alamia wrote the text for Aiaaira , the Abkhazian national anthem, and was involved in the founding of the social democratic party of Abkhazia in 2004 , of which he is now chairman.

To date, Gennadi Alamia has published 9 volumes of poetry, six of them in Abkhazian and three in Russian.
