Geoffrey Chater
Geoffrey Chater (born March 23, 1921 in Barnet , Hertfordshire ) is a British actor .
Chater appeared in film and television productions from the early 1950s. In 1961 he was in the science fiction film The Day the Earth caught fire as Pat Holroyd . In 1971 he took over the role of Attorney General Christmas Humphreys in the crime film John Christie, the strangler of London . He is also known for his small to medium size supporting roles in the classic films If ... , Barry Lyndon and Gandhi . Chater last appeared in 2005 for an episode of Inspector Barnaby . In 2017, the then 96-year-old actor gave a reading from the works of John Masefield . He lived in London for a long time and now lives in Idem, a village in East Sussex .
