T. Geoffrey Flynn

T. Geoffrey Flynn (* 1937 ) is a retired biochemist at Queen's University in Kingston , Ontario .

Live and act

Flynn earned a PhD in biochemistry in 1967 . He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley and Brandeis University . At Queen's University, he was director of biochemistry, vice dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and first vice president of research at Kingston General Hospital .

Flynn was a leading scientist who discovered and characterized the atrial natriuretic factor (ANF). Flynn's more recent work deals with aldo-keto-reductases , aldose reductases and related enzymes.

From 1996 to 1999 Flynn was President of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and from 1998 to 2002 he was Chairman of the RSC Committee on Expert Panels .

In 2002 Flynn retired.

Awards (selection)

Since 2003, Queen's University has presented the T. Geoffrey Flynn Advancement Champion Award for combining research and teaching.
