Geological map of the Republic of Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The geological map of the Federal Geological Institute in Austria is called the geological map of the Republic of Austria 1: 50,000 (also GÖK or GÖK 50 ) .

The special geological map series is the heart of the systematic geological survey; its sheets are drawn up on a scale of 1: 50,000 and occasionally on a scale of 1: 25,000 and correspond in the sheet section and in the situation representation of the official topographical Austrian map (ÖK) 1: 50,000 of the Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying .

The thematic maps describe Austria lithologically , grouped according to rock types and geological age of the rocks. In addition, a wealth of additional information is provided, for example on the location and course of tectonic interfaces (faults, thrusts, etc.) as well as on the bedding conditions of the rocks (spatial position of strata and cleavage surfaces, fold axes, etc.).

Since the geological baseline survey of Austria has not yet been completed, the complete set of maps has not yet been published.
