Georg Behringer KG
In the municipality of Sengenthal , the Georg Behringer KG company produced lime and cement from 1926 to 1974 . During this time, the cement works shaped the development of the town of Sengenthal and was also one of the most important industrial companies in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate .

In 1926 Georg Behringer leases the quarry in Sengenthal. After a thorough preparatory phase, cement production began in 1934. In 1930 the company was given a siding on the Nuremberg – Regensburg railway line . Since the delivery of coal for production and the removal of the finished cement were easier from this point on, the quarry was bought in the same year.
In the last days of the war (with heavy fighting in nearby Neumarkt ) the factory in Sengenthal was not damaged. Production could soon be resumed and the destroyed Neumarkt be supplied with cement for reconstruction. In the years that followed, the production volume continued to increase, primarily due to investments in new production facilities.
Due to financial difficulties, the cement plant was bought by HeidelbergCement AG in 1974 . In 1986 cement production was finally stopped.
In 1993, HeidelbergCement AG had the part of the cement works located above the railway line (apart from the gravel hall) demolished at a cost of around DM five million (equivalent to around EUR 2.56 million). The systems below the railway line (clinker silo, cement mill and four tower silos) remained. The silos are still used today for the storage of fly ash . In August / September 2007 the steel drum of the cement mill was sold. For this purpose, the cement mill building had to be demolished.
