Georg Freund (born March 1, 1956 in Karlsruhe ) is a German legal scholar and professor of criminal law , criminal procedural law and legal philosophy at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Life

He finished his studies with the first and second state examinations in 1980 and 1983, respectively. In 1986 he received his doctorate in Mannheim, where he obtained his habilitation in 1990 in the subjects of criminal law, criminal procedure law and legal theory . He has been a professor in Marburg since 1992.

In his work, Freund focuses on the question of the legitimation of punishment and the relationship between criminal law and other areas of law. However, he places particular emphasis on investigations into the commission-like omission offenses, fraud , document offenses and (pharmaceutical and food) criminal product liability . In the area of ​​procedural law, the law of evidence, with work on legally sufficient evidence and the prohibition of evidence, forms a central research topic. Above all, problems of legal validity and legal justification (including legal methodology ) as well as borderline questions between medicine , law and ethics are of general importance .
