Georg Friedrich Belly

Georg Friedrich Belly (born June 4, 1836 in Stolpe in Pomerania , † July 14, 1875 in Berlin ) was a German writer and comedy poet.

Life

Belly's father was a pastry chef, restaurateur and wine merchant who immigrated from Graubünden . Belly attended high school and began an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Potsdam . After completing his apprenticeship, he went to Berlin and lived here as a freelance writer. He was friends with Johannes Trojan , who reported on Belly's life and personality in three Sunday supplements of the National-Zeitung . According to Trojan, Belly was "a pleasant appearance: tall and strong, with a clear view and an open masculine nature. He was well-worn and looked good. His nature, however, won everyone who came near him. His amiability was irresistible, and, as far as I know, he never had a real enemy. " Trojan does not hide Belly's weaknesses either: "Georg Belly was a strangely unwise person. Not that he lacked common sense, he had it in a special way, but he owned it only for others, he did not do it for his own good Use of it. Because of his great imprudence he perished in his prime. No one could help him except himself; but he himself could not be induced to do anything for himself. "
