Georg Friedrich Grohe

Georg Friedrich Grohe ((also: Grohé), * 1750 in Elberfeld , today Wuppertal , † 1820 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) was a German merchant.

He was a manager in the yarn trading business "Wichelhausen & Grohe", where his father had already started as a son-in-law. In 1774 he took part in the famous "Elberfelder Treffen" with Goethe , Lavater , Jacobi , Jung-Stilling and others in the house of Anton Philipp Caspari. In 1776 he joined the Elberfeld Reading Society . He was friends with Jung-Stilling and the enlightener Engelbert vom Bruck , with whom he shared both intellectual and business interests.

In 1788 Grohe moved with his family to Neustadt, where he was active in his father-in-law's businesses.

From 1800 he worked as a mayor for two years .
