Georg Friedrich von Trott (* 1604 in Badingen ; † March 3, 1666 ) was major general in Brandenburg and commandant of the Peitz fortress .

origin

His parents were Lewin Friedrich von Trott († 1614), Lord of Badingen, Himmelpfort and Ribbeck near Zehdenick, and his wife Eva, born von Ribbeck from the Glienecke family . He belonged to the Brandenburg line of the noble family Trott zu Solz , which the imperial field marshal Adam von Trott had founded.

After the early death of his parents, his uncles Colonel Georg Friedrich von Ribbeck and his brother Colonel Heine von Robbek took care of him. They first handed him over to the mayor of Berlin Jakob Strasbourg .

Life

He enrolled at the University of Frankfurt an der Oder in 1614 , after which he attended the universities in Leipzig and Cologne. He then stayed at the University of Leiden for six years . He then went into Kurbrandenburg service and in 1626 he became an ensign in the company of his uncle, Colonel Ribbeck, in 1631 he was captain in Saxon services under Johann Georg von Arnim and distinguished himself in the battles near Breitenfeld and Lützen . In 1633 the Elector of Brandenburg called him back - in 1634 he was Brandenburg Major, in 1635 he was then Lieutenant Colonel in the Burgsdorff Regiment. In 1636 he commanded 1000 men under von Klitzing, together with the Saxon von Arnim regiment , which occupied Rathenow and Werben, which had been vacated by the Swedes. He received several offers to join foreign armies, which he refused, for which he was appointed colonel by the elector in December 1639.

On June 15, 1640, he wrote to the elector asking for his release in order to take care of his property, which was refused. Instead, on August 15, 1640, the elector promoted him to colonel, commander of Peitz and commander of the von Kracht regiment stationed there. But on July 23, 1641, the regiment was disbanded, Trott remained in command of Peitz. Only when Friedrich Wilhelm took over the government in 1648 , he received a regiment again. It consisted of five companies with 125 men each, four of which were in Peitz, while the fifth was in Brandenburg, Rathenow and Hackenberg. In 1651 he was sent with 1000 men under General Field Marshal Otto Christoph von Sparr to the Duchy of Kleve to enforce the Brandenburg claims. On June 20, 1652 he asked again for his release. But he was rejected again. In 1654 he marched with his regiment to Westphalia, but was back in Peitz in 1656. The elector appointed him major general on April 6, 1656. He died on March 3, 1666 on a trip from Peitz to Berlin. He died unmarried.

His tombstone was in Himmelpfort. The family died out in 1727 with Friedrich Wedige von Trott on Badingen.
