Georg Geist (politician, 1923)

Georg Geist (born February 11, 1923 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ; † February 26, 2013 in Rösrath ) was a German journalist , author , municipal administrative officer and politician ( CDU ).

Life

After the Second World War, the native of the Palatinate worked as an interpreter for the US Army in Oedt on the Lower Rhine. It was there that he met his future wife Maria, whom he married in 1948. In Aachen, Geist studied at the first German journalism school after the war. Initially, Geist did not find a job as a journalist. Journalism, however, remained his passion, even though his professional career began as an administrative officer. He lived in Rösrath near Cologne from 1955 to 2013 .

Administrative career

Geist started in Aachen in 1950 with the supply administration. From 1953 a time at the state supply office in Cologne followed. From 1973 he worked as a social welfare office manager in the community of Rösrath.

Political activity

From 1961 to 1973 Geist was elected to the Rösrath municipal council for the CDU.

Journalistic activity

In addition to his full-time work in social administration, Georg Geist volunteered as an editor for the magazine "Dervorsbeamte". He was one of the first authors to take part in the magazine “Der Zivildienst”. He also worked for the " Kölnische Rundschau " from time to time. Georg Geist has been known for his local reporting in the " Bergische Landeszeitung " since 1961 . Numerous articles related to the city of Rösrath come from his pen. In Rösrath, Geist was known as a "motley dog". If you wanted to launch an article for the Bergische Landeszeitung, you turned to Georg Geist. As an old-school journalist, his tool of the trade remained a typewriter, even in the age of the PC and e-mail.

social commitment

After retiring from professional life, Geist became involved as chairman of the senior citizens 'council of the city of Rösrath and as chairman of the CDU senior citizens' union for the interests of senior citizens.

Works

There are numerous local history articles by Georg Geist in the Rheinisch Bergisches Kalender (yearbook of the Bergisches Land) and diverse contributions with historical reference in the publications of the Rösrath History Association. Between 1961 and 2009, articles in the daily newspaper of the “Bergische Landeszeitung” with reference to the city of Rösrath were mostly written by Georg Geist.
